Guide: Find out why your customers sign up
Tools like Google Analytics can tell you where a customer came from but they can’t tell you why a customer signed up. In this guide, we’re going to show you a simple way to get started understanding why customers sign up for your product.
This guide looks at the following, very simple question:
Why did you sign up for [Product Name]?
Who should be asked this question
This question should be asked right after a customer signs up.
Where should this question be asked
This question should be asked as soon as your new user lands on their ‘Dashboard’ or ‘Getting Started’ page.
How to analyze the results
As an open-ended question, the only way to look at these results is to take the time to read them.
Over time, you’ll start to notice patterns. As your product and marketing matures, you may even start to look for certain keywords that you’re hoping or expecting to see. At that point--or when you start getting so many sign ups that you can no longer read all the responses-- it may make sense to create a new, multiple choice question, that buckets responses more easily.
